A DINNER was held yesterday in honour of Darussalam Motorcycle Association's (Pemoda) successful completion of a 2,000km expedition throughout Malaysia.
Twenty-one bikers from Pemoda attended the function at the Rizqun Hotel. The expedition from June 8 to 15 included visits to 10 states in Malaysia in efforts to promote tourism in Brunei Darussalam.
The guest of honour present during the event last night was the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Dewa Major General (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Hj Mohammad Hj Daud.
The association with approximately 500 members is the first motorcycle club in Brunei Darussalam registered under the Registrar of Society (ROS) on January 17, 1996.
In his speech the guest of honour lauded Pemoda members' leadership and self-discipline which were the main contributors toward the success of their expedition.
The expedition had also portrayed the association members risk-taking traits which are crucial in attaining a spirit of entrepreneurship.
The minister said that these characteristics are needed for one to persevere in facing difficult situations and challenges. For instance, successful entrepreneurs are known to be aggressive and proactive and through their actions they are able to create a dynamic effect on the community at large.
Holding up Pemoda's success as an example, the minister said that those that are risk averse will not be successful.
He quoted a famous saying by Eleanor Roosevelt, a well-known humanitarian, diplomat and lecturer: "You must do thing you think you cannot do."
With the objective of gathering all bikers in the country and increasing their awareness of their responsibilities to other road users they cooperated with other groups.
Towards this end, they also took part in local and regional events, such as the Langkawi Bikes Festival, Borneo Island Big Bike Festival, besides the National Day Parade.
The event ended yesterday with the certificate presentation by the minister.
