Thai PM arrives today on two-day working visit
Thursday, July 3, 2008
THAI Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej is starting a two-day visit to Brunei today, his first visit to the Sultanate since he was elected in January this year.
The 72-year-old premier was expected to meet His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam in an audience, followed by a small group bilateral meeting with His Majesty, and an official dinner hosted by His Majesty.
The high-level bilateral discussions were expected to include cooperation in the field of agriculture. Thailand is a major rice producer and 97 per cent of rice consumed in Brunei is imported from Thailand.
His scheduled itinerary include a visit to the Royal Thai Embassy where the premier will launch the Thai Fair 2008.
Sundaravej will also meet the Thai community in Brunei and attend a luncheon hosted by Thailand's ambassador to Brunei, Phithak Phrombubpha, at the ambassador's residence.
This year marks the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Brunei.
