Thai PM bids farewell to the Sultanate

THAI Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej bid farewell to the Sultanate as he concluded his two-day official visit and departed from the Brunei International Airport yesterday afternoon.
Present to see the Prime Minister off was the Minister of Communications, Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Hj Abu Bakar Hj Apong as well as the Thai ambassador to Brunei Darussalam, Phithak Phrombubpha.
Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) Commander Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General Dato Paduka Seri Hj Halbi Hj Md Yussof and Pehin Datu Kerma Setia CP Dato Paduka Seri Zainuddin Jalani, the Commissioner of the Royal Brunei Police Force were also present at the airport yesterday.
As it was his inaugural visit to the Sultanate in his capacity as the prime minister of Thailand, Samak Sundaravej hoped that the visit would lead to the enhancement of bilateral relations between Thailand and Brunei Darussalam.
Over the past two days, the prime minister conducted several activities towards the realisation of this initiative.
An official dinner banquet was held in the prime minister's honour at the Istana Nurul Iman on Thursday night, where His Majesty, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam congratulated Samak Sundaravej on his appointment as the Thai Premier earlier this year.
His Majesty also said that he looked forward to working with the prime minister and his administration.
During the banquet, Samak Sundaravej spoke of the strong bonds which have developed between the two countries.
He stated that both nations shared similar traits in its values and reverence for their monarchies which contributed towards the growth of the nation.
The Thai prime minister also said that he would be honoured to receive His Majesty during the 14th Asean Summit to be held in Thailand at the end of the year.
Yesterday, the prime minister launched the Thai Fair which was held to mark 25 years of diplomatic relations between Brunei and Thailand.
The Thai Premier also had the opportunity to meet with the Thai residents living in the Sultanate during an event held at the Thai Ambassador's residence. The Brunei Times
