Brunei, Sarawak relations further strengthened

HIS Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam hosted a banquet in honour of His Excellency Tun Datuk Patinggi Abang Hj Muhammad Salahuddin Abang Barieng, Yang Di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak,at Istana Nurul Iman yesterday evening.

Yang Di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak, on his first visit to the Sultanate, is aiming to further strengthen Sarawak-Brunei ties with the hope of inviting more Bruneian investment in the Sarawak Corridor, according to a representative from the Malaysian High Commission.
Earlier, Yang Di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak arrived in the morning accompanied by his spouse, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Hjh Norkiah and senior government officials.
On hand to greet him at the Brunei International Airport was the Minister of Finance II, Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Setia Dato Seri Setia Hj Abd Rahman Hj Ibrahim as well as the High Commissioner of Malaysia, Dato' Ku Jaafar Ku Shaari.
Yang Di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak and his entourage, is expected to depart the country tomorrow, met with His Majesty for an audience at Cheradi Laila Kenchana in Istana Nurul Iman before attending the banquet at Baitur Rahmah in the palace. Present during the banquet were members of the visiting entourage, nobility, and senior officials of the government. Today the Sarawak delegation will be visiting the Royal Regalia, the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Islamic Exhibition Hall, and a cruise along the Brunei River to tour Kampong Ayer.
The Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE), a new development corridor launched earlier this year, is one of the five being developed in the Malaysian state and is considered a major initiative to transform Sarawak into a developed state by 2020. In terms of area of coverage and monetary investment, the Sarawak regional development corridor has topped the other development corridors in the country. A total area of hinterland measuring 70,000sq km is expected to be developed, benefiting 600,000 people. (HHM1)
