Photography way to promote Brunei
Wednesday, July 9, 2008
THREE local organisations will be helping to raise Brunei's profile among the international media circles and photography community. Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd, GHK Motors Sdn Bhd, and Sahid Sdn Bhd are coming together to support the International Photojournalists Meet (IPM) which is held in conjunction with His Majesty's 62nd Birthday Celebrations.
Representatives from the three organisations will be signing their sponsorship pledges at a ceremony to be held at the Rizqun International Hotel in The Mall on Friday, July 11 at 10.30am.
The IPM will be held together with a photographic competition for local photographers and students of secondary and tertiary levels. Both events are organised by The Brunei Times and the Brunei Information Department.
Starting next Sunday, photojournalists from 11 countries will be arriving in Brunei. They will be scouring various parts of Brunei to capture the grand festivities of the royal birthday celebrations, as well as the country's cultural heritage, people and the environment.
The Brunei Centre for Strategic and Policy Studies and the Brunei Tourism Board will provide the international photojournalists with information and statistics on some of Brunei's government programmes such as Halal Food, Eco-tourism, etc.
The spokesperson of the organising committee said: "Besides raising Brunei's profile in international media circles, we are optimistic of elevating the standard of photojournalism in Brunei through networking and dialogue between the foreign and local talent.
The organisers also hope that the events will create interest in photography among Bruneians and inspire them to take up photography as an art, a profession or a hobby.
