Royal invitation to Kedah Sultan's Golden Jubilee festivity

A ROYAL invitation has been extended to His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam on the occasion of the Golden Jubilee celebration of the Sultan of Kedah.

Tunku Bendahara of Kedah Darul Aman Dato Seri Tunku Annuar Al Haj Ibni Al Marhum Sultan Badlishah arrived here on Tuesday as part of the royal entourage to represent Sultan of Kedah, His Royal Highness Al Sultan Almu'tasimu Billahi Muhibbuddin Tuanku Al Haj Abdul Halim Mu' Adzam Shah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Badlishah to present the invitation in person to His Majesty.

As such His Majesty has been invited to Istana Anak Bukit in Kedah on July 22, 2008, to a special dinner banquet.

The guest list includes the monarchs of the other Malay States in Malaysia, alongside Yang Di-Pertua Negeri Sabah and Sarawak as well as Malacca, according to sources from the Malaysian High Commission here in Bandar Seri Begawan.

The 50th anniversary celebration will be held on July 15 which falls on the same day as His Majesty's birthday. There will be a special parade held that day and the celebration will last until August 25.

Investiture ceremonies will also be held during which special medals will also be awarded.

Also present during the royal audience at Istana Nurul Iman on Thursday was the palace ceremonial chief Istana Datuk Saad Endut, Dato' Ku Jaafar Ku Shaari, the Malaysian High Commissioner to Brunei.

Brunei Darussalam and Malaysia have always maintained close diplomatic relations and enjoyed cordial and friendly ties. Last year His Majesty attended Malaysia's 50th Anniversary of Independence.

During His Majesty's four-day stay, the monarch attended several events such as the National Day Parade, a reenactment ceremony of the original Merdeka proclamation and placement of the time capsule by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and a high tea reception hosted by the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia, His Majesty Seri Paduka Baginda Yang Di-Pertuan Agong Al-Wathiqu Billah Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin.
