THE Youth Development Centre has organised an entrepreneurship project to help trainees exercise the skills they have learned and come up with products that have good standards.
The two-week project was launched yesterday at the centre's headquarters in Tanah Jambu.
Present to officiate the opening ceremony was Datin Hjh Adina Hj Osman, the Director of Community Development, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.
In her opening speech, the director noted that to start up a business or to involve oneself in any industry is an encouraged initiative that can lessen the rate of unemployment.
This is important, she stressed, as the current unemployment is alarming, with 7,300 locals registered as unemployed at present.
The project aims to give trainees a chance to engage in the planning, administration and management process of building a business, as well as to cultivate in them a more cooperative, disciplined and honest approach in running their businesses.
The project also gives them opportunities for advancement in the industry and allow them to recognise the problems and challenges faced by every entrepreneur and to find solutions to these problems.
Yesterday's launch also featured a speaker, Sidup Hj Belaman, an entrepreneurship officer, who highlighted the importance of planning and thinking big, giving examples of those who have succeeded, such as Bill Gates.
It is hoped that the programme can expose the trainees to the issues that are faced by the entrepreneur like the management of finance and employees. For the following two weeks, there will be talks and training for the trainees to advance in their own courses. (AIS1) The Brunei Times
