Distribution of dates for Brunei-Muara

Saturday, August 16, 2008
RESIDENTS of the Brunei-Muara District will soon receive their share of the "Kurma Kurnia Peribadi", dates bestowed by His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.
The dates will be distributed by the Brunei-Muara District Office, according to a press release from Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah.
The annual distribution of dates is in conjunction with the Ramadhan month for the year 2008/1429M.
The district office will distribute the dates to penghulus, village heads and acting village heads in each mukim of the Brunei-Muara District.
The community leaders will in turn give out the dates to the residents of their respective areas.
Brunei-Muara residents are advised to obtain their quota of dates from their penghulus, village heads and acting village heads, once the dates have been properly distributed by the District Office.
The community leaders can collect the dates according to pre-allocated times and dates.
However, officers and staffs of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces and Royal Brunei Police Force (uniformed officers) will be excluded from the above distribution as they will receive their share from their respective departments.
Each Muslim in the country is entitled to a 300 gram box of dates.
As a food that is meant for breaking the fast during Ramadhan, this unique gift is evidence of His Majesty's concern and care for his people.
This year will be the 15th time that His Majesty presented the gift of dates to his Muslim subjects regardless of age, race and nationality to break their fast with.
An increase by seven metric tonnes from last year, this year's shipment came in six chilled containers that arrived on the July 28, 2007 and keeping over 410,000 boxes, a total of about 123.5 metric tonnes of dates. The general public's cooperation is greatly appreciated by the district office. (AAB1)
