Central distribution facility to be set up for local co-ops

THE National Co-operative Alliance (GKN) yesterday inked a deal with Interline and Pakar Perunding which will soon see the provision of a central distribution facility catering for the country's co-operatives.

"The centre will assist co-operatives in the country, specifically those operating convenience stores to acquire supplies of goods at the best and competitive prices in the local market," said GKN President Pehin Orang Kaya Dewa Pahlawan Dato Paduka Hj Dani Hj Ibrahim, who is also the deputy minister of Home Affairs, in his speech yesterday.

Under the agreement, Interline, the proprietor of the central distribution centre in the Kg Salar industrial area, will be leasing the facility to GKN while Pakar Perunding will oversee day-to-day operations.

"To instill confidence and ensure the success of this centre, a team of business management professionals consisting of officers and staff experienced in sundry shop goods have been appointed to manage the facility," said Pehin Dato Paduka Hj Dani.

The GKN President expressed hope that the country's co-operatives has the spirit to advance the co-operative movement through teamwork and support.

"The society's awareness to invest in co-operatives in their respective localities is essential," he said during the signing ceremony at the Orchid Garden Hotel in Anggerek Desa, Berakas.

The signing was witnessed by the Deputy Minister of Industry and Primary Resources, Dato Paduka Hj Hamdillah Hj Abdul Wahab. The permanent secretary of the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources, Dato Paduka Hj Abdul Hamid Hj Mohd Jaafar, was also present.

GKN was established in 1991 and now has 22 registered members. Interline was established in 1990 as a manufacturer of metal roofing material, and now offers various services and products in the construction sector including interior design, pre-engineered steel structures and portable cabins. Pakar Perunding offers consultancy services in various areas, including business management.
