ONE'S creativity can be a distinct advantage, a value-added commodity and competitive edge for those who deal in businesses related to cookery and handicrafts, on top of it being a harmless hobby to pass the time.

Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pg Anak Isteri Pg Anak Sarah yesterday graced the Domestic Science Exhibition 2008, organised by the Pertiwi Association, with her presence in the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Berakas. The event was held in conjunction with the 62nd birthday celebrations of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam for the Brunei-Muara District.

In her sabda, Her Royal Highness stressed the importance of the roles and responsibilities of parents in raising their children towards excellence.

Her Royal Highness added that it is crucial to support children in their pursuit of knowledge by adopting the concept of "life-long learning" in order to contribute to the development of the youth in the Sultanate.

Her Royal Highness then went on a tour of the exhibition, which placed an emphasis on local and traditional dishes to demonstrate how Bruneian women and the delicacies can compete with more modern and western dishes which have grown in popularity among younger women.

About 12 categories were contested ranging from traditional and modern dishes, flower arrangements to crystal and beaded bunga telur.

Also featured at the exhibition were demonstrations by foreign missions, the Youth Development Centre and Pusat Ehsan.

The exhibition was aimed at showcasing the Bruneian women's ability to provide for their homes and also a testament to women's role in contributing to the economic development of the country. Apart from displaying personal creations and talents, the exhibition was also to promote products with the intention of being distributed to the domestic and even possibly breaking into the regional and international market.
