RELIGIOUS gatherings in honouring the holy month of Ramadhan continue to take place in the sultanate.

The Girl Guides Association of Brunei Darussalam held a function at its headquarters in Kampung Anggerek Desa, yesterday to mark the occasion.

The event began with mass Maghrib prayers, led by Ustazah Hjh Fatimah Hj Abd Ghani, the assistant head commissioner (Religious) of the association.

This was followed by a tahlil (the offer of prayers for the deceased) ceremony for His Majesty's late parents, Al-Marhum Sultan Hj Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien and Al-Marhumah Duli Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Damit.

Some 50 members of the association recited the tahlil, led by Ustazah Hjh Fatimah. The event was followed by the recital of a thanksgiving prayer for the association's Peace Day celebration on August 22.

Peace Day is part of efforts to support and uphold the bid of the United Nations and World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts for world peace.

Yesterday's event also saw 30 of the association members celebrated in a Khatam al-Quran ceremony. A representative from the association told The Brunei Times that the 30 members are gathered from all the four districts, where each member read one juzuk each.

The event concluded with the breaking of the fast by the congregation.

The event was part of the association's annual religious activities.

The event was attended by members of the Girl Guides Association.

Also present was the association's vice president II, Datin Paduka Hjh Jusnani Hj Lawie.
