'Cross border crime emergesagain'

Monday, September 8, 2008

CROSS-border crime has emerged again in the country as Brunei police detained three Indonesians in connection with a series of inter-boundary robberies.

A Bernama news report said that the robberies were believed to have been committed in and around Brunei and Limbang recently, and that the suspects were successfully apprehended last Friday, while attempting to escape across the border.

The suspects were caught trying to escape into the Malaysian territory after committing a robbery at a house in Brunei, Limbang police chief Supt Landi Illod was quoted in the report as saying.

Without revealing details of the suspects, Supt Landi Illod said that "another suspect is on the run and we are liaising with our Brunei counterparts to track him down". He added that the gang was also linked with a couple of house break-ins and robberies in Limbang.

The gang's most recent crime was robbing a family of nearly RM10,000 at their home in Limbang last Thursday, a day before they were apprehended.

When contacted yesterday, authorities in Brunei have yet to confirm the report, as investigations are still being carried by the relevant agencies. (SRH1)
