Biodiversity expert from UK to speak at UBD today

A PUBLIC lecture on "Managing Floods and Biodiversity on a Crowded and Shrinking Island — a View from United Kingdom's National Conservation Manager" will take place at Universiti Brunei Darussalam's (UBD) Senate Room on the first floor of the Chancellor Hall tomorrow.

Alastair Driver, national conservation manager from the United Kingdom will deliver the lecture. Driver is also the international biodiversity advisor for the Commonwealth Secretariat.

The public lecture is expected to benefit individuals who are interested in the environment and environmental conservation.

Driver is the pioneering conservation officer for the Thames catchment who oversaw hundreds of successful river enhancements and wetland creation projects, as well as the adoption of sensitive river management practices.

He has also successfully obtained budgets worth millions of pounds.

A prolific author on conservation, Driver is currently responsible for all conservation policies and procedures for the Environment Agency, the largest environmental organisation in Europe, delivering environmental protection and water management throughout England and Wales.

The public lecture will be followed by a question and answer session, and will be taking place at 1pm and expected to end at 2.30pm. (SHS1) The Brunei Times
