RESIDENTS of Kg Lambak voiced their concern when an area at a parking lot in the village was turned into a dumping ground and urged authorities to take appropriate actions.
According to one of the villagers the "dumping ground" has been there since he and his family moved into the residential area some five years ago. What started as a small amount of rubbish have taken shape of a huge pile of waste which attracted monkeys and other pests.
"I have not taken any action or complain about the problem yet, but I hope that the matter can be taken into action by respective authorities in providing a proper dumping ground for the residents because no proper action has been taken so far," said the 35-year-old man who wished to remain anonymous.
He said that it was possible that commuters passing through the road may have indiscriminately threw rubbish there or even probably by those residing around the area who were in the business of selling fruits, vegetables and other products.
A salesman whose workplace is near the rubbish site said he and his colleagues tried to remove the rubbish but the load was too much for them.
He said that the smell of rubbish being burnt was also an irritant to them.
An employee of a private company said that she was really concerned about the matter because the dumping ground has become an eating place for monkeys and monitor lizards and made a mess out of it. She feared that this could give rise to health problems for the residents. "And the smell emanating from the rubbish can be unbearable when the rubbish was burnt," she added.
The mother of two, who wished to be unnamed, said that she was glad that her landlord provides her with rubbish pick-up service so she won't be one of the irresponsible people who just throw their rubbish all over the place.
"I hope that the authorities will take some actions on the matter as soon as possible as it spoils the environment around the area as it become an eyesore for those people who visit us during the festive season," she added. (ANH1)
