EXHIBITORS of the Brunei International Property Exhibition (Bipex) 2008 reported an encouraging response from the public during the three days of the exhibition.
Yesterday was the final day of the exhibition, which was held at the Atrium Concourse of The Mall, Gadong.
A salesperson for Cityneon Displays & Construction Sdn Bhd said that they had also received good public response in terms of inquiries by interested visitors.
Azimin Ibrahim said that people had already started to ask about their products during the preparation for the exhibition.
He remarked that most of the people were looking for houses either for themselves or their children.
Due to the ever-changing economy and increasing population, Azimin remarked that some people were worried about their children's future in acquiring security in the form of a house for their children.
He said that it would take time for them to acquire a home nowadays because of the increasing price of land and problems with the present world economy.
Most of these people are waiting for houses in government housing schemes. In the meantime, they are also exploring their options and looking for houses elsewhere, he said.
Cityneon was highlighting its Alpine Villa project during the exhibition. According to Azimin, the company has sold at least 10 houses from the project since the exhibition began.
Out of these houses, two were semi-detached units while four were detached units.
Azimin further stressed on the importance of addressing the "taste" of Bruneians when helping them to find a suitable house.
"A lot of Bruneians like to have their own space and their own individual unit separated from everyone else," he said.
The director of Bruworld Real Estate Sdn Bhd, Irene Aw told The Brunei Times that some 180 clients registered with the real estate agency during the first two days of the exhibition.
She also estimated that there was a walk-in flow of around 300 people throughout the whole exhibition.
According to Aw, clients were mostly interested in houses with a leading contemporary design. During the exhibition, the company showcased houses such as the double-storey detached units and semi-detached units.
Among the products in demand were the detached individual bungalows which were marketed at around $185,000, she said.
Aw said that prior to the exhibition, the company conducted market research for a range of clients to find out what consumer demands were.
She said that a dual-income middle-class couple would most likely be looking for an individual house in a range of $180,000 to $250,000.
She said that during the exhibition, clients made "verbal bookings" with the company.
"After the exhibition, we will bring the clients to meet those project developers for further discussion. So hopefully, we will get as many (sales) as we can," she said.
