Kudos for raising 'oil running out' issue
I WAS sad to read the letter, "Time to start swinging, Brunei" by BMMR, Kuala Belait in The Brunei Times issue of January 23, suggesting that both oil and time are running out for the Abode of Peace that we all enjoy and love.
I was glad someone has been so bold as to raise the issue and that The Brunei Times also felt obliged to publish the letter.
Improvements only come through hard work and basically I feel attitudes here have to change. Whether oil runs out tomorrow, in 10 years or a hundred, as it will eventually, the future must be faced.
The successful nations are those with a strong positive attitude and a willingness to work hard. Our neighbours, Vietnam and Singapore, are examples of "where there's a will, there's a way".
On the same day in page 5 of The Brunei Times, an article highlighted the lack of interest for participating in the public forum for the much-talked about Masterplan for BSB.
That shows people are still basically complacent. Perhaps they wonder what happened to the last Masterplan prepared by Indonesian and British Consultants, in 1986, if my memory serves me right.
What did happen to that plan? And were we not told then not to worry as there was at least 20 years of oil left! By my calculations, time's up now!
