Local historical building on stamp

THE Secretariat Building inthe capital will be featured on special joint stamp issues to commemorate the Association of South-East Asian Nations, Asean, 40th anniversary.
With the theme based on ancient or modern architecture, the special joint issues feature iconic or historical buildings from every Asean member countries. No date has been given as to when Brunei will issue the special stamp but Singapore, Malaysia, Laos and Vietnam have already issued their respective stamps last Wednesday, August 8.
The commemorative piece marks another milestone for Asean as it marks the first joint stamp issue for its 10 member countries. Brunei has, in the past, issued a number of commemorative stamps to mark significant and auspicious events both local and international apart from definitive stamp issues. Brunei's thematic stamps have also garnered interests, especially among the local philatelists . Thematic stamps are issued with a design usually depict interesting subjects like birds, flora and fauna, culture and so on.
Built in 1952, the E-shaped Secretariat Building on Jalan Elizabeth II has a special place in the Brunei's history and played a vital role in the development of the capital's post World War II era. The uniquely designed building has been used for various events and functions and still houses a number of government offices.
