RBA jet encounters engine trouble

Saturday, September 1, 2007

A ROYAL Brunei Airlines (RBA) jet bound for Brunei yesterday was forced to return to London's Heathrow airport after experiencing engine trouble, a BBC report yesterday said.

According to the report, Heathrow Airport had to close one of its runways after the RBA plane made an emergency landing due to engine failure just after takeoff.

Airport authorities said the runway was shut for about 90 minutes as a precaution, while airport staff inspected the plane.

A spokesman said airport authorities decided to sweep the plane when the pilot reported technical difficulties yesterday morning.

The airport remained open and other aircraft were able to use other runways.

A representative from the Brunei Movement Control said that they were not at liberty to divulge any information regarding the incident.

According to website www.airlines.net, the engine of RBA's Boeing 767-300 airplane failed just after takeoff.

RBA is Brunei's national flag carrier. It was established on November 18, 1974 as an independent firm wholly owned by the Brunei government. It was voted as the Best Economy Class of Asia by the German travel magazine Clever Reisen! in 2005.
