Celebrating BSB expansion the healthy way

THE Ministry of Home Affairs celebrated the expansion of Bandar Seri Begawan to 10 times it's size with a walkathon yesterday morning.

Home Affairs Minister, Pehin Orang Kaya Johan Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Hj Adanan Begawan Pehin Siraja Khatib Dato Seri Setia Hj Mohd Yusof led some 200 participants comprise of officers and staffs of the ministry as far as the commercial area of Kiulap, which is part of the new expanded Bandar Seri Begawan.

Organised by the Municipal Department, the walkathon began at the grounds of Cendera Kenangan Kekal monument at the waterfront of the capital.

According to Norisham Hj Md Saini, an officer at the Municipal Department told The Brunei Times that the men walked a distance of 7.5 kilometres while the women, 6 kilometres.

The Prisons Department's provided an entertainment with their bag pipes performance.

The size of the capital was increased from 1,287 to 10,036.24 hectares, last August 1, to include some parts of Kampung Ayer, Mukim Kianggeh, Gadong, Kilanas, Berakas A, Berakas B and Kota Batu. Planned since 2005, the reason given at the time was to ameliorate the aesthetics BSB to the increasing pace of national development and to regulate the growth and management of the outlying suburbs.
