His Majesty sends condolences to Thailand PM

Thursday, September 20, 2007

HIS Majesty Sultan Hj Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam consented to send a message of condolence to Thailand's Prime Minister, following the plane crash in Phuket last Sunday.

In the message, His Majesty expressed his sadness to General Surayud Chulanont (Rtd), at the loss of lives from the plane crash. The air crash killed 89 of the 129 passengers and seven crew onboard the MD-82 passenger jet operated by Thai budget carrier One-Two-Go.

One behalf of the government and people of Brunei, the monarch also extended his heartfelt condolences and sympathy to the government and people of Thailand, especially the bereaving families of the victims.

The ill-fated flight from Bangkok to the tourist resort of Phuket crashed and burst into flames as it struggled to land in bad weather on Sunday evening. It is the worst air crash Thailand has suffered in nearly a decade, since a Thai Airways Airbus SAS A310-200 plane crash killed 101 people on board, in southern province Surat Thani in December 1998.
