Saturday, September 22, 2007

INTERNATIONAL School Brunei (ISB) has been nominated to host the Federation for British International Schools in South East Asia and East Asia (Fobissea) Music Festival for the second time in three years.

Following the success of the event hosted by ISB in November 2005, ISB is proud to be the nominated host for the annual Fobissea 2007 Music Festival in November 21-24, a press statement from the school said.

More than 200 overseas students have shown their interest in participation, including Brunei, the Philippines, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, Korea.

The three-day music festival is a series of inspiring musical activities that highlights the importance of students working together to improve their individual musical abilities and performance techniques.

Orchestras, small ensembles, choirs, jazz and rock bands have been showcased during the previous Fobissea music festivals.

The non-competitive music festival, which hopes to forge new friendships among young people from all around the world through musical expression, is expected to take place at The Empire Hotel and Country Club. In 2005, ISB played host to about 250 students at the music festival to develop their skills and their ability to perform in public. A number of workshops on music were also organised.

Thailand's Garden International School hosted the festival last year.

Fobissea is a membership association of quality British schools in South East Asia and East Asia.

Founded in 1988, the federation is registered with Singapore's Registrar of Societies and currently has twenty seven member schools offering British-style international education to more 20,000 students.

It provides opportunities for social interaction between the diverse student bodies and is aimed at promoting excellence, high achievement and good practice through British-style education in schools.
