Royal message to Saudi Arabia

HIS Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam has expressed his deep appreciation over the long-established warm and friendly relations and deep understanding between Brunei Darussalam and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
In a press statement, issued yesterday by the Prime Minister's Office, His Majesty prayed that these relations would be maintained and enhanced in the future at the bilateral and international fora for the good of the two countries and its people.
This message was conveyed in His Majesty's congratulatory message to His Majesty King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and the King of Saudi Arabia on the occasion of Saudi Arabia's National Day.
In this message of congratulations to the King of Saudi Arabia, His Majesty also prayed to Allah (SWT) for His Majesty King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz to always remain in good health and happiness and for the people of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to always enjoy continued progress and prosperity.
Brunei Darussalam and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have been sustaining diplomatic relations since July ,1 1987. Later that same year in November, Brunei set up its mission in Riyadh. The Consulate General was set up in Jeddah a few years after in 1989.
A number of cooperative agreements has been concluded between the two countries, including the Air Services Agreement in 1992; Memorandum of Understanding on Health between Brunei's Ministry of Health and King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre in 2001.
The latest of these cooperative agreements was the General Agreement on Economic, Trade, Investment, Technical, Education, Culture, Youth and Sports Cooperation which was signed in May last year.
This agreement was signed to enable both countries to further enhance bilateral cooperation in various fields such as economic, trade and cultural cooperation.
Signing on behalf of the Brunei government was Pehin Dato Lim Jock Seng, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade II, and His Excellency Dr Nizar bin Obaid Madani signed on behalf of Saudi Arabia as Minister of State of Foreign Affairs.
