His Majesty on a working visit to Belait

HIS Majesty visited several private companies yesterday during a working visit which included residences of recipients of land grants and new housing units in Tutong and Kampung Lumut/Sungai Liang.

Syarikat Kejuruteraan Sistematik Sdn Bhd/Joffren Omar Company Sdn Bhd. It was the first stop in His Majesty's working visit. His Majesty was greeted by Pengiran Joffren Omar Pengiran Omar who led the tour of the company's warehouse and fabrication block.

The company is currently undergoing future developments such as a welding training centre and the marine construction yard at Sungai Duhun, Kuala Belait.

Oil and Gas Discovery Centre in Seria. His Majesty was welcomed by Dr Grahaeme Henderson, managing director of Brunei Shell Petroleum Centre and officials from Brunei Shell Petroleum and the centre.

His Majesty started the tour in the Gallery building with small exhibitions and displays on previous OGDC activities such as the Robotics Workshop, Electronic Workshop, Tech Challenge, OGDC Discovery Camp, Little Explorer, Brunei Shell Educational Road Safety Competition and International Polar Year Launching.

His Majesty then consented to view the Exhibition Hall, which houses more than 300 science and technology related exhibits. The monarch witnessed a demonstration of the Human Gyroscope, which is a replica of a basic training device for astronauts. There was also a tour of the newly added energy and global warming exhibits.

Residence of the Head of Village of Kampung Pandan 'A'. Awg Sulaiman Hj Udin, who at the age of 61 has been holding the post of head of village since May 2005, welcomed His Majesty into his residence.

During the visit, the monarch consented to receive a pasambah.

NBT (Brunei) Sdn Bhd. Company managing director Ninan Chacko was present to welcome His Majesty to the Toyota showroom in the afternoon. The monarch then consented to also meet the staff of the Kuala Belait showroom.

Brunei Shell Fabrication Yard. His Majesty was taken to a tour of the Marine Construction Yard, which covers an area of 35 acres.

Upon arrival, the monarch was greeted by Grahaeme Henderson, managing director of Brunei Shell Petroleum (BSP). Also present were Hj Mohd Salleh Bostaman Hj Zainal Abidin, asset director of BSP and David Purvis, technical director of BSP.

The tour commenced with an exhibition on the Marine Construction Yard operations and activities by Hj Aji Hj Hitam, head of department of service campaign operations at BSP.

His Majesty then consented to sign a commemorative plaque and continued the visit to the fabrication shops, the blasting painting workshop and material handling activities area at the Marine Construction Yard.

The Marine Construction Yard is strategically placed adjacent to the Belait river, which provides both direct access from the main roads to deliver raw materials for fabrication purposes and to ship out offshore platforms infrastructure to its location.
