BRUNEI Darussalam is sending a delegation to the Korean-Asean Future-Oriented Cooperation Project: Youth Exchange Programme 2008, which will be officially launched today in Korea.

The six-member delegation comprises representatives from Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), the Youth Entrepreneurs Association Brunei (YEAB) and the Brunei Economic Development Board (BEDB).

The six participants left the country yesterday. Among those bidding them farewell was the Counsellor at the Korean Embassy in Brunei, Koo Hong-seok.

A total of 73 participants are participating in the programme organised and hosted by the National Council of Youth Organisations in Korea.

According to a press release, the objectives of the programme themed, "Youth's Role in Expanding Korea-Asean Economic Cooperation", are to strengthen the cooperation between Korea and Asean member countries for the upcoming Asia-Pacific Era, to improve mutual understanding and trust between the youths of Korea and Asean, to foster a sense of community and also to encourage them to create a network among Korea and Asean youth and the leaders.

During the eight-day programme, participants will take part in an Economic Workshop for Korea-Asean youth, visits to economic related research institution and related ministries or centres, a Korea-Asean youth interaction and Korean winter sports.

During an interview with The Brunei Times, Mohd Hafizal Hj Hassan, one of the participants representing YEAB, who is also a young Sales and Managing Director of Edo Brutrends, expressed his excitement about the visit as this would be his first trip to Korea. "I am very excited about Korea, this would be a good opportunity for me and the others to exchange ideas with the youths in Korea mainly about the culture, how they run the business in Korea and also learn about their economy," he said

He also hoped to get some tips from the business entrepreneurs in Korea which can be useful to practice for his business in Brunei.

According to the leader of the delegation, Adriana Hj Mohd Agus Din, the participants were chosen by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports and apparently the trip to Korea is the first trip for every participant.

She also expressed her hope that by the end of the programme, they will find the solutions on how to reduce the development gap between the two countries in every aspect of trade and economy.

She said that Brunei will receive a return exchange visit by the delegates from Korea hopefully in July or August.
