BRUNEI will host a Bimp-Eaga sub-regional meeting to discuss follow-up actions in the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing on the expansion of air linkages, establishment of integrated sea linkages and cross border movement of buses and coaches.
The Fifth Bimp-Eaga Transport, Infrastructure and ICT development (TIICTD) Cluster Meeting tomorrow will see deliberations on improving air connectivity between Bimp-Eaga's designated routes through the Fifth Freedom Traffic Rights (FFTR), as well as encourage shipping activities within the sub-region.
Other discussions in the two-day meeting include the ongoing implementation of the issuance of permits to operate buses across borders between Brunei, Indonesian state of Kalimantan and Malaysian states of Sabah and Sarawak, according to the Communication Ministry's statement yesterday.
During the cluster meeting in the Philippines last year, the Bimp-Eaga working group on air linkages agreed to grant the FFTR to passenger and cargo services in the airports of Manado and Tarakan in Indonesia, Labuan and Miri in Malaysia, and Puerto Princesa and General Santos City in the Philippines. These designated areas are an addition to Bandar Seri Begawan , Indonesia's Balikpapan and Pontianak , Kota Kinabalu and Kuching in Malaysia, as well as Philippines' Davao and Zamboanga City.
Communications Director of Transportation Ang Kian Guan will chair the meeting at the Centrepoint in Gadong.
Participants of the meeting will comprise government representatives of the four Bimp-Eaga countries, Bimp-Eaga Facilitation Centre, the Asian Development Bank and the German Technical Cooperation, Asean Secretariat and the private sector.

Formed in 1994, the Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East Asian Growth Area (Bimp-Eaga) is to promote sub-regional economic growth, through enhancement of trade, tourism and investment among member countries.
