Education conference ends

UNIVERSITI Brunei Darussalam's (UBD) next international education conference will be held in May next year, following the success of this year's conference.

Dr Poh Sing Huat, dean of Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah Institute of Education (SHBIE), said that the 14th International Conference on Education, will take place May 21-23, 2009.

The conference will be themed 'Bridging Worlds, Making Connections in Education'.

During the closing ceremony of the conference yesterday, Dr Poh said that the conference was a great opportunity to raise educational issues and concerns with other participants from diverse cultural and professional backgrounds.

He added that the conference has begun to be known to educators worldwide and hoped that there will be even more paper presentations and participants joining, supporting their cause and aspirations in the future.

The conference proved to be a melting pot of ideas on topics ranging from motivating students, collaboration, gender differences and the use of information communications technology. About 233 educators, 94 from countries such as Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore, Hong Kong, the United States of America, Nigeria, the Middle East, Australia and Spain, from different education levels, diverse backgrounds, varying interests and experiences participated in the event.

The three-day conference, themed 'Evolving Pedagogies: Meeting the Global Challenges of Diversity and Interdependence',was organised by SHBIE.

The conference also saw major research findings delivered during keynote addresses, while papers on specific areas of interest were presented during parallel session conducted simultaneously. (NAS1)
