THE 2000km-journey is beginning today for the members of Darussalam Motorcycle Association (Pemoda) as they tour 10 states in Malaysia for the first time in a bid to promote tourism in Brunei.
Twenty-three members of Pemoda departed from the Brunei International Airport yesterday to Malaysia led by Major (Rtd) Hj Md Daud Hj Jamil, president of Pemoda.
"We hope that through this tour we can make an impact in Malaysia on Brunei's presence," said Hj Daud.
Hj Md Daud added that he has long term plans for the 12-year-old Pemoda such as changing the negative perception of the public regarding bikers and compiling a book about the association based on the experiences of 12 years.
The Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Dewa Major General (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Hj Mohammad Hj Daud was also present at the departure of Pemoda members, yesterday.
On hand to greet the Minister was Hj Md Daud, followed by a presentation of handing over the Brunei national flag to the president of Pemoda.
"Its different from what we have done in the past, where it was touring the whole of Borneo," said Alex, the secretary of the Pemoda.
He added that without the help of the 23 participants and members of Pemoda, the tour around Malaysia would have never come into fruition.
According to the secretary, the motorcycles were already sent to Malaysia two weeks ago. The tour begins today until June 15, with more than 2000km to cover and 10 states in Malaysia to visit. For every stop, one of the main activities includes giving out brochures on Brunei.
During Pemoda's tour in Malaysia, they will be assisted by the Superbikers Association Malaysia, the umbrella for all of the motorbike association in the region.
With the booming of motorbiking activities, Pemoda has attracted more members and now stands with 500 registered members. (SHS1)
