THE second day of the parallel sessions of the 12th International Education Conference continued yesterday.

The lowerground level of the Chancellor Hall at Universiti Brunei Darussalam was abuzz with foreign and local participants rushing from one room to the other as seven working papers were presented simultaneously.

Presenters were given half an hour each and with an impressive selection of topic contents, educators and teachers from all around Brunei were spoilt for choice.

At the end of every 30 minutes, different groups of people can be seen shuffling in and out as they make their way to the next presentation on their list.

A book on the collection of working paper abstracts along with the three keynote speeches was published by UBD but this limited collection ran out during the final registration yesterday as the university underestimated the turnout.

Compact discs containing the complete set of papers was also included in the folders that were handed out to the participants. But even so, several of those present, not wanting to miss out on any information, armed themselves with pen drives and approached the presenter of the moment for a copy of their powerpoint slides, in order to obtain as much information as possible.

"I missed a presentation that was supposed to be held right now," said a disappointed primary school teacher. She was told that one of the presenters failed to show up so the following presenter stepped up.

"I thought that they would be more organised from yesterday morning's experience," her colleague added.

However, in spite of the minor setbacks in the operation of the day's session was successful and most of those present were delighted in the opportunity to interact and exhanged ideas with their global counterparts.

The period during lunch and afternoon refreshments that was catered for the convenience of everyone was maximised in this way as an informal exchange of ideas and networking of contacts.

The 12th International Education Conference has come at an opportune time for teachers in the sultanate as a source to equip them with all the latest teaching techniques and methods from distinguished speakers that have been gathered together from the rest of the world.
