Vino contests validity of dope test results

KAZAKH rider Alexandre Vinokourov on Saturday contested the validity of the positive dope test results which saw him thrown out of the Tour de France.
Also on Saturday, a B sample of his positive test confirmed he had been blood doping.
Vinokourov was thrown out of the Tour de France on Tuesday when it was revealed that an 'A' sample taken from the Astana team rider after his victory on July 21 in the time trial on the 13th stage revealed the presence of "two distinct blood populations".
That suggested Vinokourov had injected the blood from a compatible donor to boost his performance.
It has also come to light that an 'A' sample of a second test on July 23 also tested positive.
Through his lawyer, Vinokourov issued a statement which claimed the national laboratory at Chatenay-Malabry had not mastered the flow cytometry test, which detects similar blood from a compatible donor for which he tested positive. "These test results simply make no sense," he said. "You would have to be crazy to do what I have been accused of, and I am not crazy."
