AS part of a promotional push by Brunei Tourism and its industry partners, the National Tourism Organisation of Brunei Darussalam is introducing a series of tactical promotions targeted at short haul markets, starting with Singapore and with a promotion titled "Treasures of Brunei".
A delegation of tourism officials, led by Sheikh Jamaluddin Sheikh Mohamed, CEO of Brunei Tourism, is in Singapore to attend the Natas Travel Fair to be held from August 1 to 3 at Singapore Expo, as well as to introduce to the Singapore media the "Treasures of Brunei" packages during a function held at the Grand Hyatt on 31st July.
The "Treasures of Brunei" promotion is a collaborative effort between Brunei Tourism and a consortium of five hotels, three championship golf courses and six tour operators to bring to the Singapore market tour packages.
The promotion offers a variety of holiday experiences that will allow visitors to sample the many facets that Brunei has to offer, from an overview of Brunei to the more specific themes of nature discovery, Malay heritage immersion, as well as a treat for the avid golfer or a relaxing luxury breakaway in palatial surroundings.
With a Singapore-Brunei promotional fare offered by Singapore Airlines, valid until end of September for bookings made up to August 29, and with special hotel, tour and golf rates provided by the consortium partners, Brunei can be introduced as a holiday option to a wider segment of the Singapore market, starting with the attractive lead-in rate of $458.00 per person for a three days/two nights package inclusive of return ticket, accommodation with breakfast, transfers and a city tour. Golfers in particular are being targeted with this promotion, to capitalise on the attention Brunei has gained among golfers in the region since its Jack Nicklaus signature course at The Empire Hotel and Country Club has been the scene for the Asian Tour sanctioned Brunei Open.
Brunei also harbours, only minutes away from its Capital, a number of world class golf courses, among the unexpected "Treasures" that the Kingdom can offer to visitors, alongside its nature, Malay and Royal heritages and its contemporary Asian settings of opulent resorts, state of the art meeting facilities, relaxing wellness, sea sports and equestrian activities and proverbial peace, safety and wholesomeness that appeal to many discerning travelers.
Travel agents in Singapore and across the Causeway in Johore Bahru have started selling these "Treasures of Brunei" packages, which are being promoted to consumers through tactical advertisements in Singapore newspapers.
Together with other Brunei packages already in the market, the "Treasures of Brunei" holiday experiences will be promoted during the Natas Travel Fair directly to Singapore consumers looking for new traveling options.
Expectations are that the promotion of these packages will increase awareness and interest in the destination by the market, and will result in Brunei becoming an attractive new vacation option for Singapore residents, as well as being recognised as an original and rewarding destination for meetings and incentives.
Singapore is also targeted through these packages as a "catchment" area for overseas tourists using the island Republic as a base for explorations in South East Asia, or those planning to combine Singapore with other regional destinations for twin or multi-centre vacations.
To achieve this, Brunei Tourism will look into possible cooperation and joint marketing activities with the Singapore Tourism Board and with overseas operators already packaging "Singapore and Beyond" travel options.
With 14,173 Singaporean tourists visiting Brunei last year, an increase of 21 per cent over 2006, the market is the fourth largest for Brunei, which received a total of 178,540 tourists arriving by air in 2007.
Already seeing an increase of almost 25 per cent in arrivals this year, Singapore is among Brunei's key markets targeted for growth through increased promotional and marketing activities such as the "Treasures of Brunei" promotion.
With Asean markets ranking at the top of Brunei Tourism's key markets list, but with the majority of tourists from this region visiting Brunei for business or visiting friends and relatives purposes, Brunei Tourism is keen to work closely with Royal Brunei Airlines and other national or low cost carriers servicing the destination. The aim is to increase the number of tourists from these markets visiting for holiday purposes. More such tactical promotions are being planned, targeting consumers with attractively priced packages which offer programmed holiday experiences as well as "free and easy" options for those preferring to do their own planning.
Daily air connections between Singapore and Bandar Seri Begawan by Royal Brunei Airlines, and five times weekly by Singapore Airlines, and an assortment of competitively priced tour packages covering different areas of interest on offer, make visiting Brunei and experiencing its treasures an easy proposition for Singapore residents and tourists transiting through the Republic.
Brunei Tourism is the Tourism Development Department in Brunei's Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources, in charge of the international promotion and marketing of Brunei as a tourism destination of choice, acting as secretariat and executor of Brunei Tourism Board's mandate.
