INTERNATIONAL Convention Centre (ICC) in Berakas was the venue for the Career Carnival 2009 where some 58 vendors comprising companies and government agencies were showcasing job opportunities.
At the career exhibition, potential employees can apply for positions at the respective agencies. One such vendor is the Brunei Darussalam International Defence Exhibition and Conference (Bridex). Representative from Bridex were searching for potential volunteers to participate in Bridex 2009.
When speaking to The Brunei Times, Marina Yahya, the deputy exhibition director of Bridex said, "The event is a project under the Royal Brunei Technical Services and is supported by the Ministry of Defence."
Bridex 2009 would be the region's premier defence security event in which top level delegates from around 60 countries is expected to visit. The event is the focal point for the world's leading defence manufacturers and suppliers to showcase the latest in defence technology.
Marina added, " We are looking for volunteers to work as part timers during the Bridex 2009. Currently there is nearly 500 potential volunteers who are waiting to be short listed."
The high interests from mostly undergraduates as well as the unemployed is due to the fact of having the chance to be a part of Bridex.
"They take it as an opportunity to gain experience to meet and work with people from all around the world during the exhibition and conference, almost 250 companies from 20 countries is taking part in this year's Bridex," said Marina.
The positions available vary from information technology, sales, marketing, administration, finance and operations and all these departments have different positions to be filled. Volunteers work as part timers and are paid by means of allowances. "Potential candidates for volunteers would be shortlisted as early as the middle of May," said Marina.
Bridex 2009 will be held at the New Exhibition Centre, Jerudong from August 12 to 14.
"Being a part of Bridex is a worthwhile experience and opportunities like this does not come easily," said Marina.
