JIS students' A-level pass rate reaches 99.5%

A-LEVEL results were released today. JIS students' performance has continued to strengthen, while candidate numbers have increased by a further seven per cent. The percentages of students who achieved A grades, A to B grades and A to C grades all increased from last year along with the overall pass rate. About 32.8 per cent were awarded an A grade; 60.5 per cent were graded A to B, 82.7 per cent of subject entries gained A to C grades and the overall pass rate (A to E) was 99.5 per cent. There were excellent performances in many subjects, most notably in Further Mathematics where all 10 candidates gained A grades. Percentages of As or Bs were as follows: Music Technology 100 per cent, Art and Design 77.8 per cent, Accounting 76.9 per cent, Mathematics 72.5 per cent, Product Design 71.4 per cent, Chemistry 68.6 per cent, Business Studies and Drama & Theatre Studies both 66.7 per cent, Economics 56.7 per cent, Psychology 55.6 per cent, Physics 53.6 per cent, and Biology 51.5 per cent. In seven subjects 100 per cent of students gained grades A to C. John Price, the Principal of JIS said, "I am extremely pleased with these results. Students and teachers can be very proud of their achievements. Standards are continuing to rise. We try to allow all students with a reasonable chance of success onto our A-level courses, so these results are a testimony to the hard work and commitment of both students and teachers." Seven students gained five A grades at A-level: Kai Mueller, Ryan Faruque, Emma Foulkes, Nithin Kanianthara, Adeline Kho, Larissa Ong, and Jvaneel Parekh. Five more gained four A-level A grades: Sarathy Anbuselvam, Ezza Hani, Kate Lane, Jasmine Ng and Yiran Zhang. About 19.2 per cent of JIS A-level candidates gained at least three A grades at A-level. In mainstream subjects at AS-level, 25 per cent of entries gained A grades, with very good performances in many subjects.The Brunei Times
