Nasi Lemak at Country Patch

COUNTRY PATCH has a new star on its menu; the Nasi Lemak! Although the nasi lemak is one of the most common and renowned dish in Brunei, it's still worth stopping for at Country Patch, Kiulap.

Going for only $3.50 a plate, they serve the nasi lemak with a sunny side egg, fried chicken wing, slices of freshly cut cucumber, fried anchovies and peanuts, and my two favourite parts; the light green fragrant rice and the tasty sweet and spicey sambal. If you think that's nothing to gorge about, think again.

To me, nothing beats nasi lemak wrapped in banana leaf. Especially commercialised nasi lemaks sold in restaurants and cafes, they tend to miss that traditional touch. However, Country Patch is becoming more popular for this Malay treat as they serve generous portions of the sambal and its fragrant rice, cooked in coconut milk and pandan leaves, is light and does not leave you feeling lethargic after eating it.

Country Patch has been serving its nasi lemak since they have started in August 2009, but is gaining popularity as to this day.

Also, look out for the café's privilege card. To become a privilege member, dine in with bills exceeding $100 in a single receipt or just an aggregation of receipts within a month. All members would be entitled to 10 per cent discount on all food and beverages for purchases over $10. Members will also be entitled to a $10 gift voucher on their birthday. The Brunei Times
