THE Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) had a knowledge sharing session with BAG Networks staff at the Ministry of Finance yesterday.
Ampuan Ronie Iskandar Hj Ampuan Abdul Kahar, Assistant Narcotics Officer from the Preventative Drugs Education Division delivered the presentation which was well received by the staff of BAG Networks.
He explained about different types and classes of drugs and the different penalties associated with the possession and trafficking of such drugs.
In his presentation, he highlighted that five Brunei citizens have already fallen prey to international drug syndicates by becoming drug mules, and one had been sentenced to life imprisonment in China.
He went on to explain some of the methods by which members of these syndicates lured people to become drug mules, such as through the use of the Internet.
"The objective of these sessions is to provide knowledge to the general public as to the dangers of drug consumption."
By doing so the NCB hopes to eradicate the demand of elicit drugs in Brunei and therefore cut the supply of drug. "If there is no demand, then there will be no supply."
According the NCB, drug possession and use is most prevalent amongst the unemployed and what is most worrying is that children who do not attend school are also included in this category. Ronie commented on the worrying trend of today's youth being involved in not only using drugs but also in the selling of drugs.
The Drugs Education Division of NCB, routinely carries out knowledge sharing sessions to companies, non-government organisations, schools and colleges. (ZAR1)
