Coming soon: 'Saranghaeyo (I love) Korea Festival'

Tuesday, September 15, 2009

KOREA'S internationally-acclaimed break dance team B-Boy Breakout, accompanied by the Korean folk dance troupe Korea House, will be in Brunei Darussalam on 27-30 September 27-30, 2009.

Under the title of the "Saranghaeyo (I love) Korea Festival", this cultural event is jointly organised by the Korea Tourism Organisation (KTO) Kuala Lumpur and the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Brunei. The performance in Bandar Seri Begawan will be held on Tuesday, September 29 at the Songket Ballroom, Rizqun International Hotel, at 8pm.

The day prior to the event, the cultural team will hold another show, commencing at 6.45pm, at the Oil & Gas Discovery Centre Brunei (OGDC) in Seria.

The Korean dance team comprises 30 professional performers. It is quite extraordinary not only in scale, but also in nature with its unique blend of contemporary and traditional dance. It will offer an excellent opportunity for the people of Brunei to enjoy the grace and charm of ancient Korean culture as well as the great energy and dynamism of modern Korea.

The B-Boy Breakout, which showcases spectacular gymnastics, break-dance, circus aerobatics, and martial arts with hilarious comical storylines, premiered in Korea in 2007 and has since been well received all around the world including London, New York, Shanghai, Mumbai, Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok.

The Korea House folk dance troupe was established to preserve and promote Korean traditional cultural heritages. Having its permanent performance hall at the heart of capital city Seoul, the troupe presents an extensive repertoire of authentic Korean traditional music and dance to foreign visitors of the country all the year round. Both teams' sparkling and breathtaking performances are sure to captivate the people of Brunei and to contribute to further heighten the festive mood of Hari Raya Aidil Fitri.

The "Saranghaeyo (I love) Korea Festival" assumes an even greater significance in the bilateral relations between Korea and Brunei. Since diplomatic relations were established in 1984, the two countries have deepened their close ties of friendship and partnership.

It is the sincere hope of the embassy that the Festival will prove to be yet another valuable landmark in Korea-Brunei relations as Korea and Brunei share much in common: both are peace-loving nations which place great importance on community and family bonds. The embassy hopes that the upcoming cultural event will be of great value in furthering human and cultural exchanges between the two nations and serving to deepen the mutual understanding of each other's cultures.
