THE moment that we have been waiting for is finally here.
The much-awaited Brunei Salebration (BSb) officially started yesterday with the launch of the grand shopping event of the year held at Yayasan Shopping Complex, Bandar Seri Begawan.
Present to officiate the event was guest of honour Dr Hjh May Fa'ezah Hj Ahmad Ariffin, Acting Director General of the Department of Economic Planning and Development (JPKE) at the Prime Minister's Office. Also present was Acting Deputy Director General of JPKE Hj Zulkifli PADP Hj Abdullah.
As part of the launch, a competition was held earlier in the year to rebrand the sale.
The winner, Shiela Supleo Edelman, was all smiles as she received a cash prize of $1,000 for her clever and catchy word "Salebration".
In the true spirit of the Salebration, Edelman said that she was going to spend the money during the sales.
The Brunei Salebration was organised by the Department of Economic Planning and Development at the Prime Minister's Office which was formerly known as the "Brunei Grand Sale".
The sale commenced yesterday and will continue until February 6, 2011, which amounted to 50 days to shop till you drop.
In his speech at the launching event, Hj Zulkifli said: "The objective of the BSb is to contribute towards increasing the country's economic activities through attractive sales promotions as well as to encourage members of the public to shop locally."
Over 400 retail shops, supermarkets and department stores are participating in BSb 2010 and throughout the period, all participating outlets will be offering attractive discounts by organising promotional activities such as the "Shopping Spree", "Smile Campaign" and many more.
During the Salebration, participating outlets will be offering discounts of at least 30 per cent.
Members of the public are encouraged to contact JPKE for any complaints or concerns with regards to the exploitation of Brunei Salebration 2010 through the hotline at 2230223 during office hours or via e-mail at consumercomplaint@jpke.gov.bn.
