Canadian High Comm hosts alternative energy reception

THE High Commission of Canada to Brunei held a reception for Alternative Energy consultants from Canada at the Radisson Hotel in Bandar Seri Begawan on Monday evening.

The evening was to allow the delegates from the alternative energy companies to network with representatives from government agencies and the local media over refreshments and a light dinner.

Present at the event was High Commissioner of Canada to Brunei, Wendell Sandford; Dato Paduka Dr Hj Ismail Hj Duraman, Executive Director, Centre for Strategic and Policy Studies (CSPS); Dato Paduka Hj Murni bin Hj Mohamed, Chairman of CSPS and Dato Paduka Mohd Alimin Abdul Wahab, Board Director, CSPS. Also in attendance were representatives from Mitsubishi Corp and PowerTech Labs Inc.

During the course of the evening, Keith Lee from PowerTech Labs presented souvenirs to several people present including the Canadian High Commissioner and Dato Paduka Dr Hj Ismail. The representatives from PowerTech Labs arrived on Sunday evening and will be staying in Brunei until Saturday, January 15 to attend closed door meetings and visiting potential sites for alternative energy plants.

Martin Ince, one of the project engineers for an alternative source of energy based on wind said that Brunei had a great potential for harnessing wind energy, and that there were onshore and offshore possibilities for building a plant specifically to generate electricity from wind.
