THE Brunei Times welcomed a contingent of 30 people from the "Solidarity Group" of the Ship for South East Asian Youth Programme (SSEAYP), who made a visit to its headquarters in Jalan Gadong, yesterday afternoon.

Upon their arrival the group was welcomed by The Brunei Times Group Editor-in-Chief, Hj Bujang Hj Masu'ut. Following his welcoming remarks, Hj Bujang delivered his presentation on the mission and vision of the newspaper.

The SSEAYP participants also sat in a presentation by senior reporter Hana Roslan and Nurhamiza Roslan conveyed the inner workings of the newspaper alongside Adriane Jaafar from the Advertising and Promotion Department and Zul Majdi Razak from the Visual Department.

On top of learning about the various styles of news writing, the youth participants had the opportunity to tour The Brunei Times office. The delegation from the SSEAYP also had the opportunity to interact with various members of staff, who ensure the smooth operation of the daily newspaper.

Youth Leader Vilaysack Syvilay, from Laos, found the life of a journalist interesting and the presentation informative as well.

He commented on how well The Brunei Times is organised and structured, and also learnt about the processes of making the newspaper.

Renee Loke May Qi of Malaysia also praised the paper.

"I can see from their presentation that the reporters are very passionate about their job and I learnt too about the challenge of being in this business (journalism)," she said.

What impressed her the most was the newspaper's advocacy on the environmental cause. "I am also an advocate of the environment so it was good to know that," said the Assistant Youth Leader of the group. The Brunei Times
