STANDARD Chartered Bank (SCB) announced that after the positive response from the community towards their charity run this year, the bank is now preparing for the 2012 Standard Chartered Brunei Half Marathon, to be held on April 8, 2012.
Jennifer Kang, head of corporate affairs and marketing said, "We are extremely excited at the prospect of bringing a half-marathon to Brunei. It will definitely be a larger event and we will be working closely with the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS), the Brunei Athletics Association, key government agencies and sponsors, to be able to bring this event to reality.
"This event will also take on a more professional angle with proper timing chips for runners in both the half-marathon and 10km categories."
The event has the support from the MCYS and has assisted in forming a National Steering Committee, which involves relevant government departments to oversee the organisation of this event.
The 2011 Standard Chartered Charity Run attracted 2,180 runners and raised $108,355.19 for charity.
Sponsors thus so far for the 2012 Standard Chartered Half Marathon Brunei include TelBru, Suci, Brunei Press, Sunlit Advertising and Mixmediaworx. Technical support will be provided by the Brunei Athletics Association and the MCYS.
The registration for the 2012 Standard Chartered Charity Run will be open to the public in early 2012. For enquiries, contact Irene Yu at Irene.yu@sc.com.
