THREE hundred and thirty booths were set up by vendors from 10 countries as the Consumer Fair Part 9 took off at The International Convention Centre (ICC) yesterday. The launching of the fair was officiated by the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS), Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Laila Diraja Dato Seri Setia Hj Hazair Hj Abdullah, accompanied by Dato Hj Danial Hj Hanafiah, executive director of Sunlit Advertising Sdn Bhd.

A donation by Sunlit Advertising of $10,000 to Tabung Kebangsaan was also handed over to the minister by the Managing Director, Jackson Ting.

In his speech, the executive director said that the consumer expo aims to inform the public of shopping with a wide range of local and foreign goods and services at discounted prices.

"With this awareness, it is hoped that the public will opt for the availability of products in the country rather than travel abroad and incur extra expenses," he said, while also hoping that this year's expo will break the record for number of visitors compared to last year.

This year has also seen Sunlit Advertising work together with Blue Waters Advertising in bringing in Kids World, a fun and educational theme park for children filled with activities and famous television characters such as Spongebob Squarepants, Buzz Lightyear and Captain Jack Sparrow.

Other attractions include the balloon art by professional balloonists from Kuala Lumpur, Johor and Hong Kong, and the popular House of Snakes, which displays a few varieties of snakes, spiders, and scorpions.

Various banks, real estates and insurance agencies are also available at the event with consultations in the areas of insurance and housing.

The five-day fair is expected to attract more than 100,000 visitors, and is open from 10am to 10pm with no entrance fee.
