THE National Day celebratory mood has spread into the sea as local diving operator, Oceanic Quest took the celebration underwater on a dive into Rig Reef last weekend.

Two boats took six crews and seven customers on the celebratory dive trip 15m into Rig Reef, where they "flew" the Brunei flag and a banner with this year's National Day greetings in an underwater photo op.

The customers joining in the dive consisted of expatriates, teachers and students.

Oceanic Quest Managing Director, Steven Ng, said the underwater ceremony was to show the divers' love and appreciation for the country, and to join in the national celebration.

For environmental conservation and safety reasons, Ng said the flags and banners wereeventually taken off the platform as they are not biodegradable.

"We do not want it to be torn and become turtle food, which can kill them, or the ropes tying the flag to go loose and get stuck in some boats' propeller," said Ng.In light of the 28th National Day, Ng said Oceanic Quest is "proud to be able to contribute to the growth of tourism in the country, and to contribute to the country's vision of protecting and sustaining an ecological friendly environment for future generations".
