INTERNATIONAL Mother Language Day was observed by the Bangladesh High Commission last night with cultural performances highlighting songs and poetry that were part of that country's heritage, held at the residence of the High Commissioner of Bangladesh.

Children from the community, dressed in festive cultural dress, performed poetry and songs such as Amar Bhaiyer Ratoo Ranggano Rakti (February 21 is Drenched with the Blood of My Brother, Can I Forget it?) and Salam Salam Hazar Salam (Salute, Salute, Thousands of Salute) to the sound of traditional instruments such as the Tabla and Harmoniam.

The High Commissioner of Bangladesh, M Shameem Ahsan also gave a speech regarding the important day.

He elaborated on some historical aspects of International Mother Language Day and also highlighted the role of multilingualism in ensuring inclusive and quality education for all.
