THE 'ReadBrunei Books, Education, Health, Savings and Leisure Fair' was officially opened to the public yesterday, in a ceremony that took place at the atrium of the Seri Q-Lap Mall.

Present at the event as the guest of honour was Hjh Aminah Hj Momin, Director of Language and Literature Bureau under the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS). Also present was Steven Chua, Director of Prime Media Event Management and Advertising Company, who organised the fair.

The main participating exhibitors are the Language and Literature Bureau and Takaful Brunei Sdn Bhd, who arranged many talent programmes, quizzes and games for children.

Other companies present at the 11-day exhibition include Poni Divers, CF King Enterprise and SME's (Small Medium Enterprises) such as Noraini Bakery and Cotton Candy Mobile to name a few.

According to a press release from Prime Media, the objective of the fair is to promote reading culture amongst Bruneians, especially to children whilst their parents do their shopping.

The exhibition also provides a platform for the local publication industry to promote the local books to passersby.

On selected dates of the ongoing fair, there will also be a talent contest for students to show off their singing and dancing abilities.

In her speech, Hjh Aminah applauded the efforts to promote reading through fairs and exhibitions.

"What impressed me about the fair is that the campaign is done in a shopping mall, indicating the wide efforts from both the organiser and participating exhibitors to encourage interest in young people to begin reading at an early age," commented the director.
