THE Empire Hotel & Country Club in Jerudong recently opened its theatre to the public, showcasing a musical cultural drama called Tragedi (Tragedy).
Eager theatre aficionados parted with just $12 to view the colourful and endearing performance, which also attracted many hotel in-house guests and locals.
Tragedi was based on a legendary love story dating back in the 16th century between Sultan Bolkiah and his wife, Lela Manchanai. However, a devastating incident had led Lela Manchanai to commit suicide.
This heartbreaking love story was performed by a young and talented group called Lively Dancers, who have performed in many major events and launches in the past.
It was the second cultural show held at the hotel in June.
Encouraged by the positive response received from the public, The Empire Hotel & Country Club hopes to showcase more of such events in the near future. The Brunei Times
