Jordan's Queen visits Yayasan school


HER Majesty Queen Rania of Jordan yesterday visited the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah School as part of a three-day state visit with His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan, her husband.

Accompanied by Her Royal Highness Princess Hjh Rashidah Sa'adatul Bolkiah, the royalties were welcomed upon arrival at the school by Minister of Education Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Lela Dato Seri Setia Hj Awang Abdul Rahman Dato Setia Hj Mohamed Taib and wife Datin Hjh Edah Hj Mohd Noor and Minister of Communications Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Hj Abu Bakar Hj Apong as chairman of the school's board of directors and his wife Datin Paduka Hjh Zahrah Hj Mohammad.

Queen Rania was presented with a bouquet of flowers by two students and proceeded down the receiving line that included the school's board of directors, Dato Paduka Hj Ali Hashim Hj Daud, the school's managing director, principals, headmistress and other guests.

At the reception ceremony, the school's managing director highlighted the significance of the nursery school's contribution in Brunei's early childhood education programme in shaping the upbringing of the next generation.

The Jordan royalty then toured the school to take a closer look at classroom activities, led by headmistress Hjh Zaiton Hj Abu Bakar, who first led the Queen to the nursery computer room.

While in the computer room at the nursery block, Queen Rania asked questions pertaining to the computer education of the children and spent some time with the nursery children as they went about their daily class activities.

The Queen also sat in one of the nursery classrooms and listened in as the children, led by their teacher, recited a prayer before beginning class and the Jawi, or Arabic, alphabet for the benefit of their royal visitor.

After touring the classes, Queen Rania was taken on a tour of the swimming pool area and the music room.

Queen Rania and Her Royal Highness Princess Hjh Rashidah Sa'adatul Bolkiah were then led to the school hall to witness a choir performance by some of the nursery and primary students.

A presentation of souvenirs to the Queen of Jordan from the school's managing director and Pengiran Anak Hariisah Widadul Bolqiah Pengiran Maharaja Setia Laila Diraja Sahibul Irshad Pengiran Anak Hj Abdul Rahim was also conducted after the choir performance.

The visit ended after a group photo session as Jordan's Queen headed back to the Istana Edinburgh, where the royalties are staying.

The Jordan royalties arrived on Tuesday.

Brunei and Jordan are eyeing stronger ties given their similarities as sovereign states.
