ART LOVERS, watch out: the Brunei Art Forum is about to be revived, giving the art scene in Brunei Darussalam a much-needed shot in the arm.
The newly-reinstated forum will be organising its Annual General Meeting soon, and is looking to host its 2nd Art Exhibition to coincide with the opening of the new Museum Art Gallery at the Old Customs and Excise building in the capital.
These developments were revealed in an extraordinary general meeting by the BAF at the Rainforest Gallery in Kiulap recently, headed by its interim Chairman, Dato Shofry Abdul Ghafor.
Dato Shofry, an art enthusiast, and his team are planning to hold an AGM to formally elect new office bearers.
This will go hand-in-hand with the registration of members, and the opportunity to formulate ideas on how to generate exposure for arts and its further development in the country.
The BAF invites artists of all mediums, art students and fellow art enthusiasts to come to the AGM and join BAF to achieve its vision.
The meeting will be held on Sunday, June 8 at 10am at the Museums Art Gallery, old Customs and Excise building.
Artists in the country have also been called on and encouraged to submit their pieces for the BAF's 2nd Art Exhibition, which carries the theme 'Art to Heart'.
Students and artists of all mediums whether they be paintings, photography or sculptures are welcome to participate.
The official opening ceremony of 'Art to Heart' exhibition will be on Sunday June 8, 2008 for members and invited guests.
It will be open to the public daily from 9am to 4.30pm starting Monday, June 9 until Sunday, June 22, 2008.
A maximum of two artworks per artist is allowed. Each submission must include a passport size photograph, profile and a label with title, artist name, medium, and price if for sale. Artworks for sale will be sold through an open auction system.
A percentage of the proceeds will go to the China and Myanmar disaster relief funds.
All entries must be submitted to the Museum Art Gallery on Friday, June 6 before 6pm. Registration for 'Art to Heart' will be carried out at the gallery.
BAF was formed in 2003. Jose Frietas Cruz, the then-chairman and a small group of artists played an instrumental role in the formation of the forum.
It is an association set up to promote creativity and bring together 'artists' of all calibres.
