INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BRUNEI (ITB) held the closing ceremony of the 24th intake 2008-2010 orientation week yesterday.
Attending as the guest of honour was Dr Hjh Naemah Hj Basir, Acting Director of ITB.
In her speech, she advised students on several aspects of life in ITB.
"Do not disappoint parents who wants to see their children succeed in life," she said.
Some of the advice she gave, were to fill in free-time discussing about work with friends, finishing up assignments or start an assignment early and not to wait till the last minute.
Dr Naemah also stressed on the importance of self-discipline among students and urged them to maintain order, not to be influenced by negative elements and keep the institute clean.
She welcomed students who are facing problems with studies to discuss it with friends or lecturers to ensure that the lessons learned in classes were clear.
Before ending her speech, Dr Naemah also touched upon determination.
"There must be a strong conviction and do not give up easily. With confidence and constant efforts, students can overcome any challenges and difficulties in achieving what they desire," she said.
The orientation week which commenced on July 21, saw students going through various sporting and cultural activities and interacting among themselves to promote a sense of cooperation.
The institute's 24th intake for the academic year of 2008-2010, saw 511 successful applicants, which includes 53 students who will be undergoing a degree programme with the Queen's University of Belfast in the UK.
The subject that has been taken by students this year were mechanical engineering, and civil engineering. (SHS1)
