BRUNEIAN Qariah Nurfaezah Hj Emran and Qari Awangku Mohd Adibul Amin Pengiran Hj Marjuki won the third and fifth place respectively in the International Tilawah al-Quran competition held in Terengganu, Malaysia.
Nurfaezah grabbed the second runner-up place after she gained a score of 87.67 per cent, while Ak Mohd Adibul Amin obtained a point of 86.3 per cent.
The winner of the competition for the qariah category comes from Thailand, Fatimoh Ha'ra'ti, who earned 92.83 per cent, while the runner-up came from Malaysia, Sharifah Khasif Fadzilah Syed, who obtained a score of 91.50 per cent.
The fourth-runner up was a participant from the Philippines, Rahimah Panondiongan, who received 84.58 per cent.
Fifth place of the competition for the qariah category went to Singapore's contestant, Nurulhuda Khamsani, and Afrisa Misar from Indonesia, who shared the same score of 81.5 per cent.
In the qari (male) category, Brunei Darussalam representative Ak Mohd Adibul Amin won the fifth place after earning a score of 86.3 per cent, while in the forth place was Aziz Khalili from Croatia, who earned 87 per cent.
Second runner-up for the qari category was a representative from Iran, Riza Mohammad Poor, who obtained a score of 88.92 per cent, while runner-up, Abdul Karim Mubarak Elbaki Allah from from Maghraibi received 89.33 per cent.
The winner of the male category was by Hj Mu'min Mubarok from Indonesia, who earned a score of 91.50 per cent.
The top three winners from the male and female categories were given trophies and certificates of their participation in the competition His Majesty Seri Peduka Baginda Yang Di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin and Her Majesty Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Nur Zahirah respectively.
The other contestants also received certificates of participation.
Last night's event also featured the launching of books entitled "The International Past Winners for Qari and Qariah of the Assembly Since 1910" and "The Assembly of 50 Years History of the Tilawah al-Quran ".
The books, published in three languages (English, Malay and Arabic) were launched by His Majesty Seri Paduka Baginda Yang Di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin.
A total of 64 participants (40 Qari and 24 Qariah) from 42 countries took part at the 50th International Tilawah al-Quran competition, which was held in conjunction with the golden jubilee of the International Tilawah al-Quran contest.
The competition was held at the Taman Tamadun Islam Convention Center, Pulau Wan Man, Kuala Terangganu.
RTM1 has broadcast the competition since it began on August 18 until the closing ceremony last night. (ANH1)
