Khatam Al-Quran, tadarus by association, department


THE Ex-Soldiers Association held a Khatam Al-Quran ceremony yesterday at the Teratak Perwira in Berakas.

Pehin Datu Indera Negara Lt Colonel (Rtd) Dato Paduka Hj Mohd Ariffin Dato Paduka Hj Abdul Wahab, the President of the association led the congregation in the recitation of the Al-Quran.

Also present were Pg Sanggamara Diraja Major General (Rtd) Pg Hj Ibnu Ba'asith Pg Datu Penghulu Pg Hj Apong, the former deputy minister of defence who is also the association's advisor and Yahya Abdul Rahman, the Director of the Fire and Rescue Department.

Members of the association have held the tadarus since the eve of Ramadhan after the Isya prayer.

Members from all the four districts attended the tadarus ceremony at its headquarters, Teratak Perwira.

Tadarus is a group recitation of theHoly Quran where readers check each others' recitation to ensure the pronunciation of the words are correct.

An imam or anyone with a great knowledge of the Quran will be appointed to lead the recitation.

The association has more than 700 members since it's establishment in 1992.

Among the members of the association include a member of the State Legislative Council PW1 (Rtd) Hj Sulaiman Hj Ahad.

The association is also a member of the VECONAC, The Veterans Confederation of Asean Countries.

Meanwhile the Prison Department also held tadarus ceremony on Saturday at the hall of the new Maraburong Prison.

Present during the ceremony as guest of honour was Dato Paduka Hj Ahmad Hj Dullah, director of the Prison Department.

More than 50 officers and personnel from the department attended the event at the new prison.

The event started with the recitation of the Surah Yassin and tahlil followed by the recitation of different juzuk of Al-Quran and continued with tarawih prayers with the officers and personnel of the department.

The tarawih is a special prayers which can only be performed during the month of Ramadhan held earlier in the evening after the Isya prayer.

It is performed at a moderate speed, with 20 or eight raka'ats.

Immediately after the terawih is the witir prayer, a three raka'at optional prayer to mark the last prayer for the night.

An annual programme of the Prison Department, a similar event was also conducted earlier this month by the Jerudong Prison Department on September 16.

The department's women personnel will be conducting their own tadarus ceremony at the headquarters in Jerudong tomorrow.

The closing of the tadarus will be the Khatam Al-Quran for all the staff and personnel of the Prison Department to be held at a later date.

The aim of the tadarus ceremony was to raise the understanding of the importance of Al-Quran among the officers and staff as well as to enliven the holy month of Ramadhan with events that are religiously beneficial to the officers and personnel of the Prison Department. (AIS1) The Brunei Times
