HIS Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office, will join other world leaders for the 63rd annual session of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly in New York.

His Royal Highness was expected to discuss the global food crisis and its impact on world hunger and poverty, UN reforms, Millenium Development Goals, together with leaders of 191 UN member nations at this year's meeting.

Other themes that will be deliberated at the assembly include climate change, terrorism and human rights, nuclear control and disarmament, human trafficking, the situation of Palestine, humanitarian assistance and gender equality.

The general debate for the 63rd session of the UN General Assembly will begin today at the UN headquarters in New York, according to a press statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade issued yesterday.

The General Assembly, which traditionally features statements by dozens of heads of state and government as well as ministers, will conclude on Oct 1. HRH and Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah arrived Monday night at John F Kennedy Airport.

Their Royal Highnesses were greeted by Latif Tuah, permanent representative-designate of Brunei to the UN.

Their Royal Highnesses were accompanied by Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Muda 'Abdul Muntaqim and Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Muda Abdul Qawi. (HAN1)
